What's coming:   Grandparent's Day on 5/7.  Please let your child's teacher know if there isn't a guest coming that day.

Math:   BOTH CLASSES will have a chapter review on Monday and a test on unit 9 on Tuesday.  We will complete a cumulative review of chapters one through nine and then move onto Chapter 11.  This covers decimals and metric measurment.  (We will not do chapter 10.)

Social Studies:   We will finish up Number the Stars.  We will then start to discuss your child's heritage and the topic of immigration.

Language Arts:
Spelling: Mrs. Syre-Hager's spelling group will continue with unit 12 exercises.  Mrs. Shepardson's group will cover graphemes. identifying unaccented syllables, chunking words by morphemes, and the many spelling patterns for hard and soft c and g.
Writing:  Next week, we'll transition out of persuasive essays and into writing letters to the upcoming 3rd graders.
GUM:  4SH will have the unit 5 test on Thursday 5/6.  Mrs. Shepardson's call will start Unit One.  This unit covers sentence structure.  The first two lessons cover complete sentences, complete subjects and complete predicates.
Vocab:  We continue to learn words from Number the Stars and use these words in related activities that connect with the story.

Science: Mr. Lou Franco, an Applewild parent and patent lawyer, provided two poweful lessons to enable the understanding and actual engagement in the process of creating and inventing with a focus on the protections of intellectual property by patents, trademarks, and copyrights. A REMINDER: INVENTIONS AND DISPLAYS BOARDS ARE DUE MAY 3rd. Thanks for all your support at home with this special project. We hope you can view these great inventions on display in the Sutton gym on Grandparent/Special Person's Day.
